Het verhaal speelt in Parijs tijdens de sociale en seksuele revoluties van de jaren zestig, waaronder de opstand van 1968. Alexandre is een werkloze twintiger die samen woont met zijn vriendin. In een bar ontmoet hij een Poolse verpleegster met wie hij een relatie begint. Hoewel hij aantrekkelijk is, is Alexandre een egoïstisch en ongeïnteresseerd type zodat beide dames, hoewel het ze weinig uit lijkt te maken, niets aan hem hebben.
