Chounosuke Ise, een Japanse filmeditor, maakte tijdens WOII vele propagandafilms in het door Japan bezette Indonesië. Het doel van de films was het goedpraten van de Japanse hegemonie in Azië: Japan claimde de landen te bevrijden van het kolonialisme. Zijn zoon, filmmaker Shin-ichi Ise, volgt het pad van zijn vader, die nauwelijks iets losliet over de oorlog of Indonesië en blijkbaar niet wilde praten over wat hij daar had gedaan.
